I was interested in your photos of Great Hallingbury and in particular of Harps Farm which my parents bought in 1930 and where my nephew still lives. I ordered 5 photos which safely arrived - thank you. The 'John and Edith' mentioned I expect were Pattens who owned the house before my parents. The Pattens were tenant farmers from the nearby village of Thorley and two brothers came to farm in Great Hallingbury. The family died out, I believe, except for Teddy Patten, John's nephew who lived nearby until about 15 years ago when he died. He was quite a character. For a long while he never worked as he believed he was going to inherit some money. But just before he eventually died his father married again so he had to wait some thirty more years for his step-mother to die. She was a cantankerous old character knicknamed, 'Bloody old Nell'. Teddy never married but was much in demand as a spare man at Bridge and Tennis parties, and he often accompanied my mother during her long widowhood. They regularly went to Royal Ascot. Towards the end, when Teddy got fed up with waiting, he got work as a jobbing gardener. Do you have any more photos of Harps Farm? I see that one came out of an album. Do drop me an email if you have time Best Wishes
I am a Corcoran on my mothers, moms side (did you understand that?) and I Oh so very much appreciate the pictures and information you have shared. Thank you! My sister will be thrilled too. Have a great day!
Hi, Marian, Thanks for letting me know! So glad that you are enjoying the photos. I got all of them from other researchers, so I hope I've labelled them all correctly to reflect that. I'm not actually descended from the Corcorans, but my adoptive mother is a descendant of the Brays, who married into the Corcoran family. Please feel free to download any of the photos you want, and if you have any that you'd like to share with me, please contact me at debra.munn@gmail.com
Hello Debra,I was looking for something else on the internet and ran across your site. I looked at some pictures that I haven't seen for many years and had some interesting memories. I still send your mother Christmas cards each year. Not sure if she appreciates them or not. Thank you for the memories.
Keith. Thanks so much for posting this! My mom speaks of you often, and although she stopped sending cards or letters to people a long time ago, she does like hearing from you. She is 93 years old now and is still in pretty good shape, considering her age. I live in England now but return to see her twice a year. I just got back from visiting her a couple weeks ago. I know she would like to talk with you, too. Do you have her number? You can contact me at Debra.munn@gmail.com.
Hi, Thanks. I'm obviously not a professional photographer, just someone who treasures all the memories to be found in family snapshots taken over the years. Fotki seems to be the best way to protect them, as well as to make them available for others.
